Retirement Nestegg Report May 2019

Retirement Nestegg Report May 2019

Well a little bit of a rough month for my retirement nestegg as it decreased nearly $80,000 this month. I feel pretty good about the fact that my nestegg is big enough to lose $80,000 in a single month. Some day I hope to lose much more in a single month 🙂

While my retirement nestegg might not be headed the right direction this month, my overall retirement journey made a pretty big leap forward as my employer approved me going part-time this summer with the idea that I will be taking a significant portion of the summer completely off. This will allow me to enjoy the summer with my kids and well yeah is the whole point of why I save and invest. I have the flexibility to choose enjoying life and not having to worry about money and that is an amazing feeling.

Another all-time high, but subpar performance by my individual stocks this month probably primarily due to Tesla. My 401k is now within spitting distance of $500k which is kind of neat as it’s only taken 12 years at my company to amass that amount despite not coming remotely close to maxing it out most of the years I have worked there.

Well it took a bit longer to hit this milestone than maybe I expected. In fact it this was the longest between 100k milestones since I went from $500k to 600k. At this point in my nest egg’s life the market is much more in control of that than I am so I shouldn’t get too worked up about how fast or slow I hit milestones. The work has been done and now I’m just the captain of a big growing ship with tiny rudder which I guess was the whole point.

Retirement Nestegg Report March 2019

Retirement Nestegg Report March 2019

Small growth in my retirement nestegg and some slightly less than stellar investment performance – especially in my 401k which seems strange given I’m in index funds there for most part. I got a boost of over $9k in 401k contributions this month due to an annual matching contribution that hit my account this month. Next 100k milestone should be just around the corner.
