The happiest baby on the block – testimonial

The happiest baby on the block – testimonial

I’m not sure if everyone is aware of this so I figured I do a little post about this book/dvd. At our hospital The Happiest Baby on the Block (ref) is pretty much required viewing before you go home and for good reason. Essentially this video shows you a method on how to calm down a crying/screaming baby and I’ve got to say it works as advertised.

In fact just an hour ago our daughter was screaming uncontrollably

It’s a girl

It’s a girl

My wife and I were blessed with our second child last Tuesday a beautiful baby girl. Mom and baby are doing great and I’ve been enjoying some time off with the family. Now I just need to wait for the SS card to show up so I can start creating some accounts for her (529, ING Savings, Investing, etc.) I also need to get my butt in gear and start working on our will and estate planning. Anyway here is our beautiful little girl.

I got a promotion!!

I got a promotion!!

Well I have only been at my new employer for just barely 5 months, but yesterday I got called into the CFO’s office and was told that I would be getting a promotion and a 10% raise. My previous manager decided to leave the company and this opened up an opportunity for me. I never applied for the position and in fact didn’t even know if this position was being replaced, so I was quite suprised to hear about my promotion.

June 2007 – Retirement NestEgg Report

June 2007 – Retirement NestEgg Report

Well I managed to stay positive this month (barely) completely due to contributions and finally getting matching funds from my previous employer. This month isn’t exactly 100% precise as I don’t know exactly how much of the matching funds is mine anymore due to it only being 20% vested so I took a stab at it. Hopefully by next month this money will show up in Rollover IRAs and I will be back on tracking it to the penny (as if that matters). Anyway here are the figures for this month. Hopefully next month I break through the $60,000 mark.

Another Financial Goal: My very own full court basketball court

Another Financial Goal: My very own full court basketball court

If you follow my blog you know I have a goal of having $100,000 in principal put away by the time I reach 30, I have also talked about how I would like to make $100,000 per year by the time I reach 30, I’m currently working out plans for other goals, such as when I should reach $1 million dollars and possibly how much money I need to retire early (in my 40s). This goal however is going to seem somewhat counterintuitive to those goals. In roughly 5 years time I want to have enough money put away so that I can build a house out in the country with a full court outdoor sportcourt basketball/volleyball/tennis/etc court.

401k Vesting Question

401k Vesting Question

I left my previous employer in January of this year and have been waiting to receive my matching funds from last year (deposited June 15th of this year). I was looking at the company’s 401k rules and see that I am only 20% vested after my 2.5 years of service. So basically what I was expecting was that I would get 20% of my matching funds for the previous year seeing how I am not longer an employee. It appears however that I got 100% of my matching funds.

My first two bagger

My first two bagger

I was just perusing over my portfolio this weekend and realized that I have my first two “bagger”. In investing the term “bagger” was coined by Peter Lynch, which refers to an investment that has multiplied in value. He actually often used terms like 6 or 10 bagger, which he grabbed from the game of baseball where “bags” or “bases” that a runner reaches are the measure of the success of a play.
