This makes sense to me too. I had a really bad sore throat and had to work. I found a bottle of hot sauce in the fridge. I would splash a little in and it would burn for a sec but the pain from my throat would go away for a little bit.

I'm going to try gargling with the ceyenne pepper the next time. I bet if enough people recommend it pharmaceutical companies will look at it more seriously.

Using hot sauce had a mixed reaction. It would burn which felt good on my throat but then it would also it's hard to explain the feeling but if sweet things make your throat feel worse like mine then compare it to that.

I took 2 Alleve for my sore throat but it did nothing, so a few minutes ago I put 1/4 tsp cayenne in a mug of hot chocolate and drank it and my sore throat is completely gone! I like spicy foods so the "glow" on my tongue isn't bothering me a bit, but someone with no tolerance for peppers might be uncomfortable.

Usually, whenever I feel a cold/flu coming on, I eat some hot spicy mustard or hot chili peppers. People often tell me I'm crazy, but it works nearly every time.

This past acute URI I did the very thing and woke up completely congested. After a day, the doctor stated my throat looked like raw hamburger meat.

No matter the cough drop, honey in tea, or any other remedy, none I've tried works. The instant I eat something with chili paste, hot mustard, or chili's, the pain is lessened for hours if not gone.

I just had two mouthfuls (not the full glass yet) and OMG this stuff cleared everything out. I still feel the little struggle to swollow but no pain.

I am in musical theater and my show is opening tomrow and i thought i would be very sick, but after trying this im sure when i wake up tommorow i will be ready to go for the evenening performance.

Btw...so much better than neocitron, ceptol, and nasty advil that does shit all!

THAKN YOU!!!!!!

i had a severe sore throat for 5 days. today is actually the 5th day and my throat was at its worst last night/this morning. I started off taking lozenges, sore throat spray, drinking honey lemon tea, whiskey and oj, theraflu, etc. etc. all that stuff was either non-effective or it made my sore throat progressively worse.

i found this site and thought what the hell, i'll go buy some cayenne pepper. so glad that i did! i went around noon time and had my first gargle of cayenne pepper and warm water. it's 8:12 PM right now and I'm 100% better!!!! this is freaking amazing!!!!

Another method that works is gargling strong alochol, I just tried some 45%, it made me gag quite a lot but it numbs the pain and apparently it kills the bacteria :D

You can also dip the end of a cotton bud in the alcohol and then use it to wipe your tonsils. Again, it made me gag but the pain isn't as bad as it was.

I've never tried Cayenne, but I had a concert a few weeks ago, but my throat just would not allow me to sing, so I downed a bit of Tabasco and was singing like normal moments later... Of course I did have to keep having some after every 5 songs, but only a drop or two on a spoon.

I can assure you that I tried this today and it worked great. I usually use Sea Salt and warm water with little benefit. I had a mild sore throat and dry cough. After after 2-3 mins of gargling a few times, I feel better and even slightly more relaxed. My throat is less sore and it is a marked difference for me than just plain salt water.

Hope it helps you too!
